Information about the Tax Levy
Over the coming weeks, you or your Landlord will be getting a special tax bill for the BIA levy. It is important you understand this bill and what the money is going towards.
The BIA budget is currently set at $80,000 per year. In order to proportion the bill properly given that the BIA formed halfway through 2017, 2017's bill represents 6 months of BIA fees.
Fees are assessed based on your property tax value and can be divided among tenants, similar to a normal tax levy.
If you would like to review the BIA budget, please visit https://www.whitbybia.org/budget/
You will be notified well in advance of the next budget meeting and are encouraged to provide feedback and opinions on the budget throughout the year to help inform the BIA's decisions.
The BIA budget is used to plan events, advocate for Downtown Businesses, promote and improve the image of downtown, provide the Town of Whitby feedback and support on programs and help business owners and employees succeed. The BIA partners with many organizations and businesses to fulfill its goals and keep costs down. It is run by one part time staff person and a volunteer board of management.
